Team Red Cruising

Family Outing 2

We took Bill, Diane, Sara, Madeline and Ian out for a sail on Red Ranger. Biggest crowd ever; seven folks really packs the cockpit full. But send some of the kids out to be rail meat and there's room in the cockpit. The hard part is reminding them of the "one hand for yourself, one hand for the boat" rule.

10-15 kn of wind from the NW, 1-2' seas, partly cloudy; perfect conditions.

Today, we tried yankee and mizzen ("Jib and Jigger"). It seemed quite difficult to tack

Later, we tried yankee, staysail and mizzen. This configuration almost tacks by itself. The staysail, it seems, provides an amazing amount of lift even though it's well forward.

We also tried anchoring to take a little swim in the Piankatank. It was a bit blustery but the water was delightful and there were no jellyfish.
