Team Red Cruising

2025 Day 6

Yesterday, we took a little break in the morning. We've been working steadily, but, we're old.

However, we did get a lot done yesterday.

  1. Stow the dehumidifier
  2. Finish the prep work for the bowsprit platform rebuild
  3. Test the freshwater system -- it needs a new filter
  4. Clean the galley
  5. Lube all the portlight gaskets

And today

  1. Start washing the aft cabin
  2. Add a supporting plate to the dodger

I've highlighted the two cracks hidden by this plate. Here's the view from the other side.

    Inside the dodger
Inside the dodger, one crack closed, the other still pretty big

I feel good that I got one of the cracks close to closed. It will never be watertight; and the HDPE doesn't take sealants well, so it's always going to drip.

Technically, it's Hurricane Ian damage, but we never filed a claim for this because -- at the time -- we didn't know.

  3. Install the brace under the bowsprit platform

This is step 1, gluing. Next, I'll put some #10 bolts through the wood to make sure it's load bearing.

Once that's set up, I can add the three stringers. They've changed shape a bit after being glued and screwed back together, so they require some sanding to get them to a size that will fit.

  4. Add small lines to keep two of the furling fairleads out of the scuppers. No picture, you'll have to imagine what furling line fairleads are and why they fall into the scuppers.
