Outings

On Red Ranger every day is an "outing". We more-or-less live outdoors.

Life ashore is a bit different from life afloat. The primary difference is our level of self-sufficiency. Red Ranger is a boat with which we're very, very familiar. The house we're living in is much larger. And we don't own it. So we have to negotiate any changes with out housemate.

Also. The truck is parked right here. We don't have a complex trip from Florida to South Carolina to locate the truck. None of that. Walk downstairs. Drive away.

But do we?

Not very often.

In August we took two weeks to stay with mom in rural upstate New York. We helped back some things. She'll move in with one of my sisters. We visited dad, who's doing as well as can be expected.

We spent a week at Rehoboth Beach. We visited friends in the Washington, DC, area, and Virginia Beach.

That was a good outing.

Today we drove out to see the hawks migrating.

Watching for Hawks

This is an important local birding event. Hawks heading south for the winter pass over the Blue Ridge mountains. There are some places up on the ridges where you can see for miles in several directions and watch the hawks.

Bring your lawnchair. This isn't a bird-watching hike. It's a bird-watching sit.Folks are enthusiastic; learn the landmark names so you know what they're talking about.

Coming soon... October migration to the West Coast for a few months.
